WPF Job Tracker Weekly Update

May 27, 2007

Slipped a couple of days this week as I’m down in Santiago Chile at the moment.? On Tuesday I’m meeting with some Microsoft clients regarding WPF.?

Atacama Desert View from Iquique Airport

My flight stopped in Iquique on the way down from La Paz (Bolivia).? Since everyone had to deplane, I managed to take a few photos of the surrounding area.? A friend commented that these photos make the Mojave Desert look like a rain forest.? Some parts of the Atacama Desert haven’t had any rain in thousands of years.? Others get rain approximately every 6 - 7 years and then bloom for a couple of months.? But from where I stood you couldn’t see a blade of grass in any direction.?

Anyway, here are this week’s figures from Dice for progress in job postings for C# and WPF:

WPF All of Dice: 83
Silicon Valley: 4

Blend All of Dice: 1
Silicon Valley: 0

C# All of Dice: 7431
Silicon Valley: 238

All figures down just slightly from a week ago.?

WPF Job Tracker Weekly Update

I’m a little late this week due to practicing for my Webcasts.? Here are this week’s figures from Dice for progress in job postings for C# and WPF:

WPF All of Dice: 61
Silicon Valley: 2

Blend All of Dice: 1
Silicon Valley: 0

C# All of Dice: 7397
Silicon Valley: 255

C# jobs continue their modest rise overall (up 12% in 5 weeks) but stay flat in Silicon Valley. WPF flat both overall and in Silicon Valley. Interestingly, the first position announced looking for experience with Expression Blend.?

I’ve also been monitoring jobs on Monster and WPF on Monster is up by more than three times (25 to 82) overall in this same 5 week period.? ? Also the first Expression Blend position now listed on Monster (not the same job as on Dice).

Displaying Generated Files

Posted in WPF at 1:11 am by Cal

When you create a WPF project in Visual Studio which includes at least one XAML file, Visual Studio will generate a .cs (or .vb) file to, amongst other things, create a Main() method and call InitializeComponent().? To review the content of these generated files, select Show All Files on the Project menu.? The generated files will be located under the obj node.?

Generated files always contain a warning that it does not make sense to edit them because each time that the project is built, they are re-generated from the other source code (ie. the corresponding XAML file) and any user modifications will simply be overwritten.? If a change is necessary, you must make the change in the XAML file in order for it to be effective.?

If you leave these generated files open in Visual Studio, you will receive one of those annoying popups each time that you modify one of the? source files asking you if you? would like to reload the generated file or keep your current (outdated) version.? ?
